As a Canadian living in Ankara, I often spends weekends in Cappadocia, sometimes with friends, sometimes on my own. I stayed in several hotels and pensions and I really liked most of them; the pensions' owners in Cappadocia are nice people, and staying in a cave room is a great experience. But for the last couple of times, I stayed in a brand new little hotel that truly beat all my previous good experiences of staying in Cappadocia: the Assiana House in Urgup. Because the hotel has been open only for a few months, it is still a little undiscovered gem. The great satisfaction I felt when I stayed at the Assiana was partly caused by the beauty of my room: it was simply gorgeous. I really felt being in a traditional cappadocian cave room, sculpted in a rock, but with the comfort and luxury of a palace. There were carpets and kilims everywhere, and I just loved the little "ottoman corner", a place where you can sit on cushions like a sultan (or a valideh). The bathroom was spacious and classy. In addition, there was an outside terrace, very private and comfortable. The only problem of the room was that it was hard not to spend the whole day in it (something you can't afford, because there is so much to see in Cappadocia). The hotel is very tiny: 5 rooms (all beautiful, as you can see on the pictures of the hotel's website). This is adding to the feeling of being in a cozy place. Assiana is a family-run hotel. I found the owner and manager, Mevlut Bey, and his family absolutely charming. Because me and my friends didn't wanted to go dine outside, the owner's wife cooked us some delicious food for a very reasonable price. For all these reasons, Assiana is now my favorite place to stay in Cappadocia. I'm recommending even to my budget-traveler friends to stay at least a night in Assiana: until now, not one of them regrets a single Turkish lira spent there!
